90% of Web Publication Project go Over Budget
The System 7 team has studied the implementation of inhouse epublishing projects, and
believes that as many as 90% go substantially over budget. Studies of the problem also indicate that
as many as four out of five publishers are unaware of what their real costs are, and quite how badly
their projects are performing. The problems stem from the difficulties of managing software and
IT projects within non-technical organisations.
Dominic Williams, System 7 managing director, says, "Publishers don't develop their own desktop
publishing software for very good reasons, and in the future, they won't be developing their own epublising
systems. System 7 far exceeds what can be achieved using inhouse development teams because it is
supplied and maintained by a dedicated software development operation and economies of scale come into play.
For online publishers, using System 7 is about becoming more competitive and controlling technology costs
at the same time."
